2011 Vintage

2011 has proved to be a difficult year from a harvest perspective with many vineyards struggling under the pressure of regular and prolonged rain events.  Early on in the season we were battling bouts of Downy then Powdery mildew with twice the normal sprays applied and a shortage of chemicals as well.  Then as soon as the fruit started to ripen Botrytis started with several large rains placing growers under extreme pressure.  The wash up is that several hundreds of thousands of grapes will be harvested onto the ground in South Australia alone in 2011.

For us, we were unable to get the Dolcetto, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo ripe.  So far we have made our base wine for the "Rosebelle", "Alfie" and "Pinot Chardonnay" sparklings from beautiful Piccadilly Valley and Lenswood fruit which has enormous potential to be one of the greats this year.  After that there will be no other wines made this year.

The 2011 releases will be 2010 Sangiovese, 2010 Dolcetto, 2010 Nebbiolo, 2009 Alfie (Blanc de Blanc), 2010 Rosebelle (Pinot Rose).
